Pentecost, Fundraisers and Volunteer Appreciation

Good Shepherd Anglican Church
Weekly Round Up May 20, 2026
Pentecost Sunday

Pentecost Sunday

Baptisms and Strawberry Tea

Celebrate Pentecost this Sunday! Enjoy some of our favourite traditions. You won't want to miss our truly awe-inspiring multi-language reading, dressing up in a favourite red outfit or enjoying strawberries and cream with cake. We also look forward to 3 baptisms, join us in welcoming them to the feast of the Lord.

Playful Pastures Change: We are inviting children and teens to join us in worship in the Nave from the start of the service until the multi-language reading is finished. Then we will gather for a slightly shorter Playful Pastures lesson in the Narthex or Upper Hall. As usual we will return in time for communion.

Important rehearsal reminders for Sat. May 23. The baptism rehearsal is at 12:00 PM and the multi-language reading rehearsal is at 1:00 PM. Meeting invitations for both rehearsals were emailed out yesterday, please take a moment to let us know if you can attend.

Featured Art: A mosaic tile mural in Rizal Park, Manila; titled, 'Ang Pababago: Peace-Love' by Jose Datuin.

Discuss the Sunday Scriptures - Wednesday, May 27 2026

May 27th is our final Bible Study for the spring. Discuss the readings for Trinity Sunday with us. We'll see you again in September!

If you don't have your own Bible you can borrow one of ours! If you'd like to look up the readings ahead of time you can find them here: Anglican Church of Canada Online lectionary – Book of Alternative Services

We have been enjoying following the lectionary as our Bible Study, however, if you have any recommendations for a specific Bible Study to explore please don't hesitate to reach out. We would love to help offer space or resources for Bible Study groups to meet up throughout the year. Folks feeling called to lead/facilitate can email Michelle at parishadmin@goodshepanglican.org.

Volunteer Appreciation Coffee Hour

Volunteer Appreciation Coffee Hour

Let the Staff Serve & Thank You - Sunday, May 31, 2026

You are invited to join us in celebrating all of the volunteers that make our many ministries possible. If you share your time and talents in any way with the church we hope you will come and receive or gratitude during our Volunteer Appreciation Coffee Hour. Your staff members will prepare the coffee and bring in snacks for everyone to enjoy.

We know we have a lot of humble, silent stewards who tirelessly care for the church & cemetery throughout the year. Let us briefly shine the spotlight on your hard work.

Almighty God, giver of all that is glorious, we pray that you bless the lives of every person who lifts our church up. We, the flock of the Good Shepherd, are privileged to worship in a pasture that is lovingly cared for by all of the people Your Holy Spirit has called into service. We ask that you carry our prayers of gratitude to the hearts of each volunteer, that they may always know the love we carry for them. Amen.

Taqueria Rivera Taco Cart

Taqueria Rivera Taco Cart

Parking at Good Shep on Weekday Afternoons

We are excited to announce that we have leased outdoor space to Taqueria Rivera Food Cart for the spring and summer season. Taqueria Rivera started selling delicious Mexican food at farmer's markets on weekends and are excited for the opportunity to expand to weekdays as well.

Catalina and her daughters are setting up twice a week this spring and will add more days once school is out. If the weather isn't too windy they will be set up on Mondays, Tuesdays, or Wednesdays. Their tacos are delicious and the home-made lemonade is my new favourite drink of the summer!

Volunteer Opportunities

Many thanks to Val W. for offering to begin organizing our music library. If you have a passion for music and would like to help Val out, reach out to Michelle at parishadmin@goodshepanglican.org.

Reminders

Prayer List - If you know someone who should be prayed for publicly, please send their name to us at parishadmin@goodshepanglican.org. The list will be refreshed on a regular basis. If you know someone whose prayer request is more private, or who is unknown to the congregation, please ask the Prayer Chain to pray for them by contacting Kathy Lake at kalake@telus.net.

Forward Day by Day - Most of you may know already that our books arrived! Pick up a copy at the back of the Nave for a $2 donation that supports our ability to continue ordering printed copies. You may view the daily devotion online for free here: https://prayer.forwardmovement.org/fdd

Parking Reminder - As our Sunday attendance grows, our parking lot is filling up! While this is good news, it comes with some challenges. Can you please ensure that you are parked inside the lines so that we maximize our space? If you can walk a bit further, can you park at the Sobey's lot to leave space for those who need a shorter journey? Can you leave the visitor parking at the front for visitors who are new to the church? If the parking lot is full, can you be mindful of your driving and not try to force your way into a space too small for you? Think of how you would feel, your first Sunday trying a new church, and someone crashes into your car because they were trying to squeeze into a space too small for them. As we welcome new members, let's make sure our welcome includes making space for parking. Thank you so much for supporting our welcoming culture.

Memorial Bricks - Anyone wishing to purchase a Memorial Brick in the Chapel at Good Shepherd, please speak to Harold or Kathy Lake. A Memorial Brick costs $75.00, and is a lovely and lasting way to honour the memory of your loved ones.

Little Free Pantry - Any donations you bring for the pantry can be placed directly into the pantry, if it is full we have a box in the narthex that items can be placed for restocking. As a reminder, please keep donations to shelf stable pantry items, and keep in mind how packaging or food might be impacted by hot or cold weather. We are in particular need of water and to-go or single serving foods and snacks that can be enjoyed without any cooking needed.

Support Groups that meet at Good Shepherd:

If these are supports that you find helpful, thank you for doing what you need to take care of yourself.

  • AA and Al-Anon Meetings - Are being held at Good Shepherd every Friday at 8:00 PM. For information about meeting alternatives please visit edmontonaa.org.
  • NA Meetings - Are being held at Good Shepherd; a men's group meets every Saturday at 10:00 AM. For information about meeting alternatives please visit www.eana.ca.

We give thanks for your continued financial support, which allows us to continue serving the people God loves. If you're wondering how you can currently tithe, there are four possibilities.
First, you can mail a cheque to the church.

Second, you can EMT (email money transfer) to treasurer@goodshepanglican.org. Please include your full name and address with the transfer so we can make sure that tax receipts are sent out properly.
Third, you can donate via the "Give" button in the header or footer of our website, www.goodshepanglican.org
Fourth, you can set up Pre-authorized Giving (PAG), and have your donation sent directly from your bank account each month. Forms can be found on the diocesan website.
If you have any questions or concerns, please email Michelle at parishadmin@goodshepanglican.org or Renita at treasurer@goodshepanglican.org

    • We pray for the peace of Jerusalem.
  • For all those impacted by natural disasters:
    • For people impacted by extreme weather throughout the world. May the Lord shelter all of those in need, keep our rescue workers safe, and guide our hands and minds as we work to offer aid and prayers.
  • For all whose lives have enriched our own, even though they have died and for those who mourn.

We thank you Lord for all the blessings of this life, for listening to our prayers and petitions, and for always doing what is right for us in your eyes. We thank you for Your blessing on our needs and all whose lives are closely linked with ours: we ask that our Heavenly Father grant that we may bring others to know Jesus, our Lord and Christ, and love one another as He loves us, through the power of the Holy Spirit.

AMEN
