With Rev. Stacey we learned that every good story has a villain and that sometimes the most dangerous villains only need to speak to cause a lot of harm. On Sunday Rev. Ifuero shared with us the cost of greed and comparison especially when powerful people struggle with wanting to be better than others. This Sunday Rev. Jordan will talk about the heroic King David, which will be a nice break from all this evil. Heros never do anything bad, right?

Don't let the comic book graphics trick you into thinking this is a sermon series for kids. We're covering big topics from inadequacy to fear, entitlement to violence, and more! Natalie has also put together worship booklets. The coloring pages and activity sheets can be used during the service, or taken home to carry the lessons on throughout the week.

Important Reminder: Children are invited to join us for the worship services this summer. We do not have any scheduled volunteers for childcare or Playful Pastures in July & August. Families and care-givers are welcome to bring the weekly booklet or provided colouring supplies into the Nave. You may also bring items from home for children to play with & enjoy during the service.

Stay after the service for hamburgers and hotdogs fresh off the grill. RAMMS will be taking donations to support youth ministry and outreach programs in our community. 

After lunch help us install the bookracks for our chairs. We'll have the World Cup Finals Match on, plus popcorn and iced tea. Installing the bookracks is easy, all you need is a set of needle nose pliars and to be able to sit on the floor. Teens & kids can help by bringing chair racks over to each chair and cleaning up the little plastic plugs you'll remove with the pliers. Once the book racks are in place, we'll also need volunteers to help put the service books and hymnals onto the racks. We thank you all in advance for joining us for burgers, bookracks and ball games!

Stay after church on July 26th for an ice cream. The ladies of the ACW will be raising funds for their outreach programs this fall. Choose a cone or cup for your ice cream and enjoy a variety of toppings. There will be several flavours and a sorbet option. 

Thank you all for coming out to support our Anglican Church Women. The Good Shepherd ACW has been raising funds to support church renovations, women and youth programming in Castle Downs and Edmonton, resources for the music team and so much more for over 100 years! Become a part of this fantastic and caring group this fall at the next ACW meeting on Sept. 1! Reach out to Linda H or Kathy L the next Sunday you see them if you would like to learn more. Our Weekly Vacation Bible School and Family Dinner Nights are coming back this year! Sign up to spend your Thursday nights in fellowship at Good Shepherd. Registration fees include dinner and the Just Like Me Summer Camp Program. Everyone is welcome to join us in the garden, even if you can only stay for supper. We look forward to seeing you.

We’re celebrating who we are, learning how to use our voice, and sharing our gifts with our community. Visiting gardeners will explore a series of Old and New Testament stories and learn that people in the Bible are just like us! Join us as we wonder, shout, share, build community, and help others.

Michelle is still recording emergency contact information for our parish members. If you haven't provided one, please consider doing so this summer. 

You might be thinking "why does Good Shepherd need my emergency contact", and there are a few different reasons. Most recently, someone forgot their phone at church and we didn't have another way to get in touch with them. Or, maybe you haven't been to church in a few months and have been too busy or overwhelmed to return a missed call. If you have a medical emergency here and we need to call an ambulance for you, who would you like to meet you at the hospital, or to check on your house until you're home?

If you are not sure, consider some of these ideas. Your emergency contact can be your next door neighbour, a friend from the church, or the admin office of your supportive living/nursing home. Think of someone you would trust to water your plants or feed your pet if you went out of town for vacation. You can choose a family member, such as an adult child, a sibling, grandparent, or other relative. Some people might have a coworker in mind as well. The important thing is to let that person know, so they aren't surprised or confused if we do need to call them. 

Summer Coffee Host Invitation

Coffee Hour after church is a big part of our fellowship ministry. We need folks who don't mind coming to church a bit early to get the coffee urn steeping, or staying a bit late to wipe down the tables. Learning how to run the coffee urn only takes a few minutes, once it's set up our coffee hosts can head into the Nave and enjoy the service. When announcements start is when you get the kettle boiling for the teapot. During Coffee Hour most people are quick to put their used dishes in the dishwasher so clean up is a breeze. You don't even need to like coffee to be a part of our Coffee Host Team!

Vacation Bible School

Vacation Bible School (VBS) planning continues. Join us to host dinner and the "Just Like Me" program. VBS dates are July 30, Aug, 6, 13, 20, and 27, times will be confirmed soon. If you would like to participate as a dinner host, station leader, set up team, clean up team, or support our August VBS plans in any other way please let Natalie or Michelle know.

We thank you for Your blessing on our needs and all whose lives are closely linked with ours: we ask that our Heavenly Father grant that we may bring others to know Jesus, our Lord and Christ, and love one another as He loves us, through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Phone & Tablet Use During Worship - Please remember to put cell phones and tablets on silent or vibrate during worship services. Be mindful when using phones and tablets during services, we know thay can be a helpful tool for folks of all ages and in some cases have become a necessary part of health monitoring and accessibility. They are also difficult to step away from and can distract others, as well as ourselves. To the extent that is possible, we invite worshippers to put devices away and step into God's presence during worship. Allow yourself the space to be fully present with Our Lord and with your siblings in Christ for this one hour each week. In an emergency, please step into the narthex to take a call or otherwise manage the noise of your device. Thank you for your dedication to worship and your kindness to your fellow worshippers.

Parking Reminder - As our Sunday attendance grows, our parking lot is filling up! While this is good news, it comes with some challenges. Can you please ensure that you are parked inside the lines so that we maximize our space? If you can walk a bit further, can you park at the Sobey's lot to leave space for those who need a shorter journey? Can you leave the visitor parking at the front for visitors who are new to the church? If the parking lot is full, can you be mindful of your driving and not try to force your way into a space too small for you? Think of how you would feel, your first Sunday trying a new church, and someone crashes into your car because they were trying to squeeze into a space too small for them. As we welcome new members, let's make sure our welcome includes making space for parking. Thank you so much for supporting our welcoming culture. 

Memorial Bricks - Anyone wishing to purchase a Memorial Brick in the Chapel at Good Shepherd, please speak to Harold or Kathy Lake. A Memorial Brick costs $75.00, and is a lovely and lasting way to honour the memory of your loved ones. 

Little Free Pantry - Any donations you bring for the pantry can be placed directly into the pantry, if it is full we have a box in the narthex that items can be placed for restocking. As a reminder, please keep donations to shelf stable pantry items, and keep in mind how packaging or food might be impacted by hot or cold weather. We are in particular need of water and to-go or single serving foods and snacks that can be enjoyed without any cooking needed.
